First time in orbit: Russian cosmonaut voted online

Russian research cosmonaut Anatoly Ivanishin, who is currently on board the International Space Station, voted on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation. He is the first person to cast his vote online from the near-Earth orbit.

E-voting finished the previous evening, at 8 pm on 30 June. Over 964,000 Moscow residents took part in it with a turnout of 93.15 percent. The e-votes will be counted alongside paper ballots after the polling stations close on 1 July.

The online voting system underwent thorough testing and was praised by Russian and international experts. All ballots in the system are anonymised and encrypted. The security and transparency was provided by the blockchain technology.
