Rinks for every taste: where to skate in Moscow parks

To date, there are 20 artificial ice rinks in parks to skate or play hockey. Another 18 natural ice rinks will be arranged in recreation areas as soon as frosty weather sets in.

This winter, 28 parks of the Moscow Department of Culture will offer 38 skating and hockey rinks. Artificial ice rinks are already open to public. Natural ice rinks will open as soon as the air temperature drops below freezing.

Skate in any weather

Gorky Park has opened Voskhod space-style skating rink, one of the largest artificial ice rinks in Moscow.  It is divided into three zones.  The site with artificial ice covers some 20,000 sq m. The central ice area is open to all visitors. There is a separate 800 sq m site for children. Voskhod rink is open 10:00 am till 03:00 pm and 05:00 pm till 11:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 05:00 pm till 12:00 am on Fridays and weekends. It is closed on Mondays. 07:00 pm till 11:00 pm, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Media Room glass pavilion hosts concerts of young musicians and DJs.

There is a special fenced ice rink with hockey goals for amateurs and professional hockey teams.  You can rent it for a private match 10:00 am till 11:00 pm daily.

Besides, there are six heated pavilions and six skate rental spots open for Gorky Park guests.  You will find them along the rink's perimeter. Look for skate sharpening points right in front of the Central Pavilion. This year, the Luxury Pavilion (No. 2) has opened on the rink next to the Garage Museum. Check the rink's opening hours and buy an entrance ticket on the Park's website.

Electronic Ice artificial ice rink in Tagansky Park is open daily 10:00 am till 03:00 pm and 05:00 pm till 11:00 pm. On Saturdays, 07:00 pm till 09:00, it hosts DJ parties. The rink covers 4,600 sq m. Bring your own skates or rent them at the special point. Skates should be properly sharpened to glide smoothly, so you may have your skates sharpened in a special shop. Change and warm up in a comfortable heated locker room. To have a ride, buy a ticket at the box office. 

Bauman Garden offers New Year films and skating at the artificial ice cinema rink. Watch films on the big screen every Sunday. Start at 05:00 pm. The rink is open daily 10:00 am till 10:00 pm. There is a heated changing tent, rental spots, skate sharpening points and a cafe nearby. Tickets are available at the box office.

Hermitage Garden welcomes to take a ride on the artificial ice Jazz Rink, with jazz playing daily. The rink is open 02:00 pm till 11:00 pm on Mondays, 12:00 pm till 11:00 pm on other weekdays, and 10:00 am till 11:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. You can change and rent skates in the heated pavilion. There is also a cafe with hot drinks and snacks next to the rink.

Skate on frosty days

18 natural ice rinks will open as soon as the temperature drops below freezing. Sokolniki Park will run two larger free skating rinks. One of them, Giant Rink, with an area of 17,000 sq m, will be arranged on the Big Circle and the 1st Luchevoi Prosek. Forest Fairy Tale skating rink (2,500 sq m) will open near the Golden Pond. They will be open daily 10:00 am till 11:00 pm. There will be skate rental spots and points to sharpen skates at Beryozki stage. Hockey fans will enjoy a natural ice hockey field covering 800 sq m. It will be arranged on the tennis courts grounds. Next to the hockey rink, you will find a heated locker room, where you can rent skates, hockey sticks and pucks. To enter the rink, buy a ticket at the box office nearby.

Two natural ice rinks will open in Izmailovsky Park. One of them covering the area of over 7,000 sq m will welcome quests of all ages on weekdays 12:00 pm till 04:00 pm and 05:00 pm till 10:00 pm, and 11:00 am till 02:00 pm, 03:00 pm till 06:00 pm and 07:00 pm till 10:00 pm on weekends and holidays. 300 sq m children's ice rink will run only on weekends 11:00 am till 02:00 pm. You can change in the heated pavilion, and rent skates or have them sharpened at special points. Buy tickets at the box office.

For the first time in many years, the natural ice ring covering 1,120 sq m will appear in Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve (at Shipilovskie Vorota). Enjoy it on weekdays 11:00 am till 03:00 pm and 04:00 pm till 08: 00 pm, and 10:00 am till 08:00 pm on weekdays, service break 03:00 pm till 04:00 pm. The rink will be closed on Mondays. For those who do not have their own skates, there is a system of all-inclusive tickets, including rental and skating session price. Tickets will be available at the ticket offices next to the rink.

The winter season in Moscow parks started on 22 November.

As soon as the snow falls and the temperature drops below zero, 62 ski runs and 39 slides for sleds, toboggans and snow tubes will open for Muscovites and tourists in the recreation areas. Besides, festivals, concerts and workshops will be taking place in Moscow parks throughout the winter.
