The improvement project at the park is almost complete, with the installation of benches, vintage lamp posts and modern lighting.

By the autumn, 7,000 trees and shrubs and 61,000 perennials will have been planted in the VDNKh landscape park, according to Deputy Moscow Mayor and Chief of the Moscow Mayor and Moscow Government Staff Natalia Sergunina.

The park, with an area of over 87 hectares, has been divided into five sectors, forming a gradual transition from pristine nature to man-made landscapes. A walkway more than five kilometres long will link the park with other VDNKh facilities.

“Moscow and Russia have never implemented such an environmental project before. The park is on a par with the most famous landscape parks worldwide in terms of style, content, zones and landscaping design concepts. Unlike many similar foreign projects, entry to the VDNKh landscape park is free,” Ms Sergunina noted.

While restoring the park’s Michurin Orchard, the city planted 1,000 fruit trees and shrubs there, including 700 apple trees of 13 varieties. Upgraded flowerbeds behind the park’s pond now feature roses and ball-shaped northern white-cedars.

Although the park is still being improved, city residents and tourists can already appreciate its autumn splendour.  Vintage lamp posts, creating a cozy night-time atmosphere, and elegant modern designs with one or two LED lamps, have been installed. People can also relax on comfortable benches with heat-treated wooden coating.
