Travel cards with festive designs will go on sale at Moscow Metro ticket offices on 1 September.

The Moscow Metro will soon issue Troika and Unified travel cards with special designs dedicated to Moscow’s 871st anniversary. These cards are to become available at Moscow Metro ticket offices on 1 September. The Moscow Metro will issue a total of 10,000 Troika and 400,000 Unified travel cards.

“These tickets, which are dedicated to City Day, will help to create a festive mood among citizens,” said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Moscow Mayor and Head of the Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development. “And tourists who get to visit Moscow during the celebrations will be able to keep the travel cards as memorabilia.”

Issuing themed travel cards and tickets has become a tradition, Liksutov said. These initiatives help passengers to keep track of memorable dates and large-scale city events, plus make Troika card collectors happy.

The front of the themed Troika card, which will be dark blue, will say “Moscow 871,” with “8-9 September. City Day” below. Festive Unified travel cards will be red and white, and will have similar text on both sides of the card. All cards will be decorated with the traditional City Day design – a rectangular crisscross pattern.

Ahead of City Day, the Moscow Metro and the Moscow Central Circle will carry out a large-scale clean-up. Hallways, platforms, underpasses and façades will be washed using special shampoos. Cleaners will focus on stained-glass windows as well as artistic architectural elements, including columns and sculptures. All the work will be done at night when the stations are closed.
